Party time for Posh at London Road

DARREN Ferguson has urged his players to celebrate promotion to the Championship in style by putting on a sizzling show against Swindon at London Road on Saturday (3pm).

DARREN Ferguson has urged his players to celebrate promotion to the Championship in style by putting on a sizzling show against Swindon at London Road on Saturday (3pm).It is certain to be a party atmosphere on the final day of the League One season as the Posh players receive their medals in recognition of a second successive promotion.

But Ferguson is mindful of 12 months ago when similar celebrations fell a little flat as Posh played poorly in a 2-0 defeat by Darlington.

He wants to reward the fans for their tremendous backing by delivering a performance to suit the occasion.

Ferguson said: "The players felt my wrath 12 months ago because we played so badly the day went a bit flat. I will remind them of that before they go on the pitch tomorrow because these fans deserve a special performance to cap a fantastic season.

"And I have a feeling they will deliver it. We only returned to training yesterday after winning promotion last Saturday, but the lads were buzzing and they looked very sharp."

Darragh will be taking part in a question and answer session on this website, starting at 12noon today (Friday). Post your questions and watch the Q&A live.

"It's a celebration tomorrow and there should be a very special atmosphere. It will be even better if we play well and pick up another victory.

"It won't be easy as Swindon are a decent side, but I expect us to play well."

Ferguson is expected to start with the same side that sealed promotion by winning at Colchester last Saturday. He is considering a cameo role for long-serving goalkeeper Mark Tyler who is expected to leave the club after 15 years service in the summer.

Posh are urging fans to arrive early tomorrow to avoid the expected congestion. The home areas of London Road were sold out last week so a crowd close to 12,000 is expected.

Local band 'The Lightyears' will be performing on the pitch from 1.45pm.

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony is expected to address the crowd before the match.

He will thank the fans for their support and urge them to stay off the playing area at the end of the match.

There will be a handful of player of the year presentations before kick-off including The Evening Telegraph's.

MacAnthony will present individual medals to each player at the end of the game. The squad and staff are due to parade around the city on an open top bus on Monday.

Posh are selling 1,000 limited edition 'T' shirts emblazoned with 'Posh are going up' and 50 footballs signed by the promotion-winning squad.

Posh must pay Norwich City another 100,000 after securing promotion under the terms of the Joe Lewis transfer deal. The goalkeeper cost Posh a club record 400,000 in January 2007.
