Panthers ace tipping Poland to win the World Cup

DEFEATED Dane Kenneth Bjerre is tipping Poland to succeed his nation as Speedway World Cup winners.

DEFEATED Dane Kenneth Bjerre is tipping Poland to succeed his nation as Speedway World Cup winners.Bjerre was the star performer for a struggling Danish side who could only manage third place in Event One before bringing up the rear in the Race-Off on Thursday night.

He now expects host nation Poland to take possession of their crown in tonight’s final on their home shale at Leszno – just as they did in 2007.

The surprise Event One winners Russia and Race-Off qualifiers Australia and Sweden stand in the way of the Poles who booked their place in the showpiece meeting with a stunning Event Two success at the Showground on Monday.

Bjerre said: “Poland have the home advantage and I expect them to win. They did it two years ago and I feel sure they will do it again.

“It is really disappointing not to be riding in the final. It would have been really hard for us to retain our title, but we should have been in there fighting for the medals.”

Bjerre has arguably been the most impressive individual rider on show in the World Cup. He delivered a magnificent 21-point maximum in Event One and then scored half of his team’s points in their race-off exit.
