Oundle event proves all Whight for Peter

PETER Whight and Sophie Walker were the dominant forces at the annual Oundle Club Championships.

PETER Whight and Sophie Walker were the dominant forces at the annual Oundle Club Championships.The pair combined to win the mixed doubles crown after their success in the men’s and ladies singles events respectively. Whight also teamed up with brother Charlie to win the men’s doubles, while Walker was joined by Kate Whight, the mother of Peter and Charlie, to take the ladies doubles title.

Walker also won all three titles last year. This time around all three victories were achieved in straight sets.

Peter Whight lost the first set of the men’s singles 6-1 to Charlie Brooker, but recovered to win the next two sets 6-4. Brooker also lost in the final of the mixed doubles alongside Fiona Frost, who was also beaten by Walker in the ladies singles decider.

George Frankel won the junior title for the third successive year beating Jordan Lee in straight sets.

Final Results:

Ladies singles - Sophie Walker beat Fiona Frost 6-3, 6-1.

Men’s singles - Peter Whight beat Charlie Brooker 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Junior singles - George Frankel beat Jordan Lee 4-3, 4-1.

Ladies doubles - Sophie Walker & Kate Whight beat Jo Martin & Jane Eayrs 7-5, 6-4.

Men’s doubles - Peter Whight & Charlie Whight beat Tim Palmer & John Weston 6-3, 6-2.

Mixed doubles - Peter Whight & Sophie Walker beat Charlie Brooker & Fiona Frost 7-5. 7-5,

Mens singles plate - Adrian Way beat David Reed 6-2, 6-1.

Ladies doubles plate - Gee Farnsworth & Jan Butlin beat Chris Thompson & Hilary Basely 6-2, 6-2.

Mens doubles plate - Mark Nicholas & Adrian Way beat David Reed & Tean Hatt 6-1, 6-2.

Mixed doubles plate - Lorna Holden & Tim Palmer beat Chris Thompson & Adrian Way 6-0, 6-0.
