It's Juliet bravo! Findley topples world champion

Lakeside giant-killer Dennis Harbour and Dutch Open champion Martin Adams were both impressive winners, but the real star of the show for Cambridgeshire at the weekend was Juliet Findley.

Cambs entertained Warwickshire in a BDO Inter-Counties League clash at the March GER Club and Findley was faced with the daunting prospect of playing current Ladies Lakeside World Champion Trina Gulliver.

Needless to say, the Warwickshire ace doesn’t lose too often on the county circuit but Findley, who plays for March USC, pulled off a thrilling 3-2 win.

She coolly checked out first in the two opening legs only for Gulliver to hit back and level it at 2-2.

But Findley threw some sparkling arrows, including a 100, 104 and 140, in the decider to take the honours 3-2.

That helped Cambs to a 5-1 win in the women’s A match and with the ladies B team honours also going Cambs’ way (4-2), the home county went on to win 23-16 overall and move up to fourth in the Premier Division table.

The men’s B team clash finished all square at 6-6 with Warwickshire nicking the men’s A team encounter 7-5.

Adams and Harbour were both A team winners for Cambs.

Harbour beat Will Naylor 4-3 while Adams overcame Dean Stewart 4-2.

Adams finished with a 30.12 dart average to claim the men’s A team match award.

Cambs other match award winners were Claire Brookin (ladies B), Matt David (men’s B) and Jane Judges (ladies A).

This weekend Harbour and Adams travel to Renfrew for the Scottish Open - an event Harbour won last year.

And he’ll be hoping to build on the form he displayed last month during his run to the quarter-finals of the Lakeside World Championship when he beat Darryl Fitton and Martin Phillips - seeded seven and 10 respectively.

Harbour is currently ranked 17 by the BDO while Adams, who retained his Dutch Open title last month, is ranked number two behind Glen Durrant.
