Two of our biggest sporting stars are on their way to the Olympics.

Louis Smith - the golden boy of British gymnastics - and Commonwealt Games gold medal-winning athlete Louise Hazel (above) have both won selection to the GB squad for the Games.

The 23 year-old pommel horse ace Smith’s inclusion was a mere formality but he couldn’t hide his delight.

He said: “It’s unbelievable to be named as part of Team GB for London.

“It’s been a crazy four years since Beijing - both for me and for gymnastics as a whole in this country.

“I’m not sure anyone ever expected such rapid development and it has been such a positive time for the sport. Now we have a chance to really show how far we’ve come.”

Heptathlete Hazel is a former Peterborough Athletic Club talent from March who is now based in Birmingham.

The 26 year-old competes in her first Olympic Games two years after striking Commonwealth gold in Delhi.
