Black belt treble for Clifton

Martial arts instructor Clifton Findley (second left) presents black belts to Prem Pankhania, Elyssia Hughes and Alexander Ferguson.

Three Peterborough Freestyle Karate Club members recently gained their black belts on the same day

King’s School pupils Elyssia Hughes (15) and Alexander Ferguson (10) and Prem Pankhania (13) from Jack Hunt all passed the three-hour test with flying colours.

Instructor Clifton Findley said: “To have three successes at the same time from one club is rare. I’ve had the odd two before but never three.

“The black belts are a reward for four or five years hard training and Alexander started when he was just five years of age and progressed into one of my brightest black belt students.

“Prem, who started when he was eight years-old, was shy when he first came to my classes at the Regional Swimming Pool, but he rapidly became involved and his confidence grew and he has matured into a great student who loves to help out others in the class.

“Elyssia has followed in the footsteps of her brother Jonathan, who passed his black belt five years ago, and sister Sarah, who passed hers three years ago, to make it a hat-trick for the Hughes family and their mother and father are so happy.

“Elyssia herself has studied hard and her determination has shone through in the end.”
