Netherton hoping to transport Northants Sunday Cup back to the city

CITY cup kings Netherton will have to overcome a loss of form and a host of injuries to lift the Northants Sunday Cup for the second time in three seasons.Netherton face Northampton Sunday Combination side Wrefords Transport in the final at Kettering Town tonight (7.30pm). It's the first of three finals in three weeks for Roland Dean's side.

The city side should fancy their chances tonight as the works team are bottom of their league, but Dean is taking nothing for granted.

He said: "To be honest I know nothing about them. I'd rather they worried about us as my focus is on getting all my players fit.

"We've been inconsistent in the league this season which has been disappointing, but the lads tend to pull out the stops in cup matches and hopefully that will be the case tonight.

"It's a big game at a great venue for players of this standard and we will be well supported so I'm sure we will put in a good performance."

Netherton have lost their last two Peterborough Sunday Morning Premier League matches as injuries have started to hit an extremely talented squad.

Goalkeeper Dave Beeny, midfield general Darren Bradley, stylish stopper Greg Siccardi, uncompromising centre-back John Treliving, dogged defender Ian Hair, captain Eddie Patton and former Market Deeping midfielder Ben Daly have all been absent lately.

But in Dean they have a manager who knows what it takes to perform on the big occasions. When Netherton won this cup for the first time two seasons ago, Dean saved three penalties in a shoot-out at the age of 45.

Netherton also have two big finals against Premier Division pacesetters Lord Burghley in the PFA Sunday Morning Cup this Sunday and the Hereward Cup on May 9.

Netherton: Dave Beeny, Eddie Patton, John Patton, Duncan Roberts, Greg Siccardi, John Treliving, Darren Bradley, Mark Kingston, Jon Stead, Adam Scotcher, Jon Harrison, Matt Seddon, Ian Coupe, Ian Hair, Ben Daly, Paul Clark, Gareth Exton.
