Nash runs fastest time in opening race of the series

JOHN Nash was by far the quickest at the opening race of the Harrier League 5k handicap.

JOHN Nash was by far the quickest at the opening race of the Harrier League 5k handicap.The Nene Valley Harrier was one minute 43 seconds faster than the next quickest, clubmate Steve Reid.

Jamie Toms of Yaxley Runners was a comfortable winner, despite falling on the third and final lap.

The race saw two 'blasts from the past' in action. Former Peterborough Athletic Club members Caroline Thomas recording the fastest female time of the night and Tracey Lazenby finishing third.

A TEAM of runners from BRJ made their way to Newcastle to take part in the world's biggest and most prestigious half-marathon, the Great North Run.

In what has now become a bit of a BRJ tradition several of the team completed the run in fancy dress to help raise money for charity.

BRJ results: 11,320 Rachel Real 1:57:43; 11,336 Brendan Vaughan 1:57:44; 19,981 Abi Gray 2:11:51; 32,621 Gillian Peck 2:45:09; 32,623 Lynn O'Callaghan 2:45:09; 32,626 Adrian Cragg 2:45:10; 32,627 Alan Hannibal 2:45:10; 32,628 Geoff Hopcraft 2:45:10; 32,629 Sue Yendley 2:45:10.

Bryan Goodenough of Thorney Running Club clocked a useful 1.33.38 for 1,119th position on Tyneside while clubmate Paul Markham ran 1.57.33 for 11,198th place.

Eye Community Runner Eric Winstone, who will keep up his 'ever present' record in the Great Eastern Run on Sunday, ran 1.43.05 and will be happy if he can go three minutes quicker on Sunday. Three of his clubmates were also in action with him, Mike Branston clocking 1.33.24, Mandy Tropeano 1.53.43 and Gill Bates 2.00.15.

Bushfield Jogger Alan Miles ran 2.07.25 for 17,399th place.

GAIR Matthews of Hunts AC produced a monster performance when taking 10 minutes off his personal best at the Loch Ness Marathon. He finished 101st out of 1,402 finishers in 3.16.25 while Mike Wright of Eye ran 4.19.46.

OLLIC Rich of Nene Valley Harriers finished 52nd in the Standalone 10k in 39.12 while Stamford Striders veteran Algie Audas was 96th in 41.33.

PACTRAC veteran Alex Findlay finished 58th in the Daventry 6 in 45.04.
