SPEEDY Steve Seymour proved too hot for Histon to handle as March powered to a 10-wicket Cambs Division One win.Aussie Seymour bagged 7-21 in just 11 completed overs as Histon were rushed out for just 50. Chris Peckett claimed the other two wickets to fall to a bowler before Andrew Mills and James Hilliard knocked off the runs in just 37 balls – bizarrely March required just 41 to win after a rain interruption forced a revised target.
Reigning champions March now face a must-win game against league leaders Nassington next weekend, but they will be facing a team in prime form.
Nassington remain title favourites after seeing off Granta seconds by seven wickets. Once again the club's trust in youth paid dividends as all the runs scored off the bat as they chased a revised target of 173 in 40 overs were supplied by teenagers.
Harry Chappell, who turned 17 the day before the game, led the way with his competition best score of 94 from 95 balls, while fellow opener Chris Budd contributed 47 in a first wicket stand of 125. Alex Bandaranaike and James Binley were the other Nassington players to trouble the scorer.
Earlier captain Haroon Mohammed (4-54) had bowled well as Granta racked up 203-9 in their full allocation of 48 overs.
Wisbech are still on the fringes of the title race after beating Sawston by six wickets. Chris Clark (4-24) produced a fine late spell of off-spin bowling as Sawston were restricted to 159 before the club's Cambs players came to the fore.
Minor Counties skipper Gary Freear (87) and all-rounder James Williams (42no) dominated the successful Wisbech reply.
It wasn't such good news for the local promotion hopefuls Khalsa and Yaxley in Division Two. Yaxley's match with leaders Foxton was washed out, while Khalsa merely wished their top of the table clash with Waresley at Woodlands had been.
Khalsa were inserted on a damp track and promptly collapsed to 63 all out, an inadequate target which was reduced to 43 anyway, a total Waresley passed for the loss of just one wicket.
Castor boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation by overcoming Cambridge NCI and the complicated Cambs League rules.
Patient Castor captain Rob Vitas scored at less than one an over for his 41, but it was a crucial effort as his side's 156 proved just enough.
A rain delay meant NCI had to score just 109 in 37 overs, but Castor only had to take eight wickets to win.
Veteran Norman Gray (4-31) ensured they captured the eighth wicket with the score on 94 leaving Castor winners by 14 runs.
