FOOTBALL: Giuliano Grazioli scored an early goal for Posh, but promotion-hunting Cambridge equalised through Paul Wanless in a thrilling Division Four local derby.BOXING: Adopted Peterborough boxer Patrick Mullings was beaten by Drew Docherty in a British super-bantamweight title fight at Planet Ice.

CRICKET: Central recorded the first 10-wicket win in their history after bowling Orton Park out for 118 in a Rutland Division Three match. Irfan Khaliq (5-21), Shaz Aftab (53no) and Keith Gloster (50no) were the Central men in form.

FOOTBALL: Peter Pan secured the second leg of their Sunday morning treble by adding the PFA Senior Cup to the Northants Sunday Cup with a 6-1 final win over McCain. Matt Leftley hit a hat-trick, Simon Acton scored twice and Paul Gauntlett also netted.

FOOTBALL: Chairman Peter Boizot announced the club would sponsor their own shirts in the 1999-2000 season. The first-team shirt would have 'The Posh' emblazoned on it.

SQUASH: Tania Bailey beat six RAF men on the same afternoon in a charity challenge. She dropped just 69 points and one set.

FOOTBALL: Midfielder Simon Davies won the prestigious Evening Telegraph Posh Player of the Year poll.

20 YEARS AGO

ROLLER HOCKEY: Julie Goode, Joanne Strickland, Lois Strickland, Sarah Holmes and Maria McCourt of the Peterborough SEAT team were all picked to represent England in the European Cup in West Germany.

FOOTBALL: Goalkeeper Stuart Butler scored twice for Red Lion, Warmington, in a 2-0 Mid-Anglia League win over Vence. On both occasions his huge kick from inside his own area bounced over the opposition goalkeeper and into the net.

ATHLETICS: Nene Valley Harrier Giovanni Rizzo broke three records when winning the Eastern Counties 5,000m race. He smashed the event record, the club record and his own personal best by winning in a time of 14.13 minutes.

SNOOKER: Bob Hearns, Stephen Rudd, Tony Rudd, Grant Sheehan, Terry Parnell, Len Blythe, Andrew Bunton, Glen Hollington and Nicky Parnell received the main prizes at the Court Billiards and Snooker Club awards night.

FOOTBALL: Posh manager Mick Jones slaughtered his players for their lack of application during a 2-1 home defeat by Grimsby in Division Four. Steve Osborne scored his maiden Posh goal after coming on as a substitute.

FOOTBALL: The Newark Hill Primary School six-a-side team moved to within one win of a Wembley appearance by winning the Cambs Championships. The winning squad was: Peter Doorman, Gavin Delegate, Michael Divers, Peter Short, Thomas Purser, Simon Wilson, Neil Webb, Daniel Burgess, David Thomas and Stewart Pattison.30 YEARS AGO

FOOTBALL: Posh boss Peter Morris attacked the London Road crowd for barracking full-back Peter Hindley during a shock 2-1 win over promotion chasing Swindon. Ian Ross (penalty) and Joe Cooke scored the Posh goals.

DARTS: Fenman provided three winners at the John Smith's League presentation night. Ken Price, Len Skipworth and Dave Grist were the Fenmen heroes.

FOOTBALL: Youth team star Micky Gynn accepted the offer of a two-year professional contract at Posh.

CRICKET: Peterborough Town failed to win their South Lincs League match at Woodhall Spa despite skittling their opponents for just 90 as Nick Andrews (4-35) hit form. Town mustered 62-7 in reply with only Dick Tunney and Jim Wylie reaching double figures.

FOOTBALL: Franco Piergianni picked up two cup-winners medals on the same day. He scored as Peterborough Corporation beat Phorpres 2-1 in the PFA Senior Cup in the morning and scored again as Eye beat Western Star 1-0 in the FA Sunday Cup.

RUGBY UNION: Borough beat their President's XV 28-16 with tries from Dean Rickards (2), Dave Quy, Pete Barnes, John Everitt and Graham Walker.

SNOOKER: City professional Markham Wildman came from 4-0 down to beat 16 year-old Jimmy White 5-4 in a challenge match at the City & Counties Club.

40 YEARS AGO

GOLF: Wellingborough professional Rodney King set a new course record of 68 at Milton Golf Club just weeks after club member Paddy Dempsey had set the amateur record of 74.

FOOTBALL: Ramsey Grammar School beat Deacon's 4-2 in the Hunts Senior School Cup Final as 14 year-old Henry Tacconi scored two goals with his first two touches of the ball. Tim Scott and Chris Hodson also scored for Ramsey with Mick Soanes and John Peart netting for Deacon's.

BOXING: Leroy Panoo and Mick Dowland of Walton Amateur Boxing Club recorded fine victories in a dinner show at Ely.

CRICKET: Old Deaconians beat Casuals by five wickets in the Peterborough League with Mike Taylor (52), Norman Saltmarsh (38) and Tony Malton (27 & 3-21) the men in form.

RUGBY UNION: Peterborough made it 500 points for the season when thrashing Henry Mellish Old Boys 30-3. Stan Williams led the way with a hat-trick of tries with Eddie Hein, John Woodcock, Pete Beasley and Dave Buxton also crossing.

FOOTBALL: Posh strikers Jim Hall and Colin Garwood both appealed for a summer job as they didn't want to get bored during the close season.

FOOTBALL: Ollie Conmy missed a penalty as Posh went down 2-1 at Bradford City in Division Four. Peter Price scored the Posh goal.

GOLF: Peterborough Milton member Susan Stephenson won the Northants County Ladies championship.

FOOTBALL: Posh gave long-serving Ron Cooper a free transfer.
