DOMINOES: Phorpres won the Peterborough Clubs League title. Their squad was Bill Griffin, Alf Sawyer, Ron Nicholls, Gordon Long, Len Woods, Peter Preston, Ellis Moulton, Ron Bellamy, Charlie Foreman, Ernie Nichols, Terry Long and Neil Sawyer.
FOOTBALL: Barry Lovell scored all four goals for Leverington in their 4-1 Peterborough League Premier Division win over Wisbech Town Reserves.
FOOTBALL: Peterborough Quarries pipped Newborough 5-4 in a thrilling Helpston Charity Cup semi-final. Harry Wilde (2), Graham Copland, Bob Smitheringale and Graham Mitchell scored for Quarries with Francis Dudley, Brian Joyce, Ken Adams and a Fred Merrill own goal making up the Newborough tally.

DARTS: Alf Corney from the Boat Inn, Whittlesey, won the LVA League singles championship.
CRICKET: Mitchells paceman Eric Robinson pushed his side through to the quarter-finals of the Jaidka Cup, taking 5-26 in a second round win over British Sugar. Sugar were restricted to 53-9 and Mitchells reached 57-6 with two overs to spare.
CRICKET: In the first round of the Jaidka Cup, Westwood A bowler Joe Stocks took 6-22 as his side beat Whittlesey by nine wickets.
BOXING: Peterborough's Clive Hogben, boxing for the Kettering Keystone Club, beat highly rated George Turpin, the former British junior featherweight champion, at a show at the Golden Gloves Club in Liverpool.
30 YEARS AGO
FOOTBALL: Mick Higgins scored a hat-trick for Gordon Arms as they clinched the Mid-Anglia League Division Two title with a 4-2 win over Stanground.
BOXING: Dave 'Boy' Green from Chatteris stopped Rafael Rodriguez in eight rounds at the Wembley Conference Centre. The durable Mexican had previously taken welterweight greats Sugar Ray Leonard and Wilfredo Benitez the distance.
DOMINOES: The Star won the Manns League KO Trophy for the third year running, beating Oatsheaf 4-3 in the final.
Their winning squad was: Alf Stapleton, Charlie Green, George Goodchild, George Goodliffe, Ron Lilley, Cyril Lilley and Eric Cross.
FOOTBALL: Mick Noble scored five goals for Pearl in their 12-2 win against Whittlesey Blue Star in Division Five of the Peterborough League.
FOOTBALL: In Division Six of the Peterborough League, Gedney Hill crushed Thomas Cook Reserves 16-0 with Don Wright (7) and Stuart Gavaghan (5) leading the way on the sciresheet.
FOOTBALL: Comet clinched the Sunday League Division Three title in style, beating Oundle 13-0 with Dave Lindsey and Steve Jones both netting hat-tricks.
POSH: Posh lost their final game of the season 1-0 at Bury. Danny WIlson scored the goal and former London Road favourite Dave Gregory was a constant threat for Bury.
20 YEARS AGO
CRICKET: Nenedale were thrashed by Peterborough Town in the first round of the Jaidka Cup. Gary Rice (right) took 5-14 and Brian Howard 4-8 as Nenedale were bowled out for 28 chasing Town’s 116-7.
CRICKET: Richard Allen hit two centuries for Barnack in the space of three days - 110 in a 20-over Spastics Cup win over Bourne and 134 against Laxton Park in a friendly.
FOOTBALL: Peterborough Rangers Under 13s completed a Junior Alliance league and cup double when beating ICA 4-0 in the cup final. Ben Conmy scored two of the goals.
CRICKET: Barry Morris hit 104 for Old Deaconians in their Rutland League Division Three win over Perkins.
POSH: Ellis Stafford was given a testimonial by chairman John Devaney after 35 years service at London Road.
GOLF: Rupert Speechley (69), a former Posh director, local cricketer and Milton Golf Club captain, hit his first hole-in-one at the 16th at Milton.
FOOTBALL: New Posh schoolboy striker Ian Shooter smashed six goals for Woodston Dynamos in their 7-0 thrashing of Wyberton in the PFA Under 14 Cup final.
ATHLETICS: Gino Bevilacqua and Elissa Butcher from Stanground both produced a hat-trick of victories at the Peterborough Secondary Schools Championships.

ATHLETICS: Three Peterborough Athletic Club members set new club records in a British League Division Three match at Gateshead. They were Steve Webb in the 400m with 48.0, Chris Hodson in the 110m hurdles with 15.7 and Simon Bannister in the high jump with 2.10m.
SPEEDWAY: Jason Crump recorded a 12-point maximum for Panthers but they still lost 47-42 ay Eastbourne.
RUGBY: Scrum-half Colin Mayo collected the player of the year prize at Peterborough Rugby Club’s annual dinner.
CRICKET: Stamford opener Paul Ramm hit a staggering 14 sixes during a knock of 152 in a Rutland League game against Ufford Park.
CRICKET: Opener Alan Swann made an unbeaten 114 out of Peterborough Town’s 214-4 in a 33-run win over Horton House in the Northants League.
FOOTBALL: Northfields beat Fayrespot Raiders 4-2 in a controversial McCain Cup final in which Raiders had goalkeeper Steve McDonnell and skipper Gavin Spiers sent off.
CRICKET: King’s School teacher Richard Baker taught Ufford Park seconds a lesson in a Rutland League match. The Central seconds opener made 130 not out in a massive 181-run win.
CRICKET: Ramsey’s Aussie Julian Seal cracked an unbeaten 98 in a first round Jaidka Cup win over Elton Park.
