POSH: Goals from David Farrell, Giuliano Grazioli and Drewe Broughton secured a 3-0 win against Leyton Orient at London Road.FOOTBALL: Perkins won 10-0 to clinch the Pearl Peterborough League Premier Division title. Goals from Matt Leftley (4), James Horner (2), Ricky Speechly (2), Stuart Adinall and Ian Fovargue secured the impressive win against Outwell.
ANGLING: The big charity match at Horseshoe Lake was won by Dave Hobbs with 28lbs from John Sharman with 22lbs.
CRICKET: Peterborough Town's Northants Championship aspirations received a massive boost with the return to action off-spinning all-rounder Adam Howorth.
POSH: A goal by Richard Scott helped Posh to a 1-1 draw with Scarborough, but the Yorkshire side equalised with a Darren Roberts goal.
CRICKET: David Christmas picked up four wickets but couldn't stop Bourne slipping to defeat against Peterborough Town.
FOOTBALL: Goals from Darren Cundy and top marksman Gavin Dolby earned Spalding a 2-1 win against Northampton Spencer and with it the United Counties Premier League title.
POSH: Barry Fry finally pulled off the signing of Wimbledon striker Andy Clarke of a free transfer. He had been a long-term target for the club.
SPEEDWAY: Jason Crump denied claims from Panthers bosses who claimed he had refusing to take an extra ride at Oxford.
20 YEARS AGO:
MARTIAL ARTS: Clifton Findley, Nigel Thompson, Imran Bhatti and Mark Burburough headed off to the World Freestyle Kung Fu Championships in Las Vegas after winning their open competitions to qualify.
ATHETICS: In-form city star Giovanni Rizzo produced a lightning finish to win the 1500m at the four-way Eastern Counties fixture at Bedford.
CRICKET: An APV Baker side of Jim Weston, Dave Roberts, Darren Morris, Gary Scotcher, John Ringrose, Mark Finney, Dean Chapman, Steve Best, Alan Weston, Andy Malton and Chris Malton completed a four-wicket win over Hunts Under 19.
GOLF: Joe Brady and Barry Diver won the Evening Telegraph Cup, despite only entering the competition as emergency replacements for another pair who pulled out at the last minute.
TRIATHLON: Richard Rollings was the first local home in the Stone Triathlon, clocking two hours eight minutes for the 1,000m swim, 10k run and 45k cycle event.
ICE HOCKEY: Pirates director Tony Medlock pulled off a major coup after unveiling the UK's top netminder David Graham ahead of the upcoming season.
CRICKET: Yaxley won the first ever match of the Rutland Cricket League's Third Division, despite fielding only 10 players. John Hilton (6-31) and Mick McCullam (3-43) were the chief destroyers in a 12 run victory against Uffington.
30 YEARS AGO
FOOTBALL: Former Posh apprentice Clive Reedman enjoyed a happy return to London Road as he headed Yaxley's winner against Parson Drove to secure the Peterborough Senior Cup.
SQUASH: Youngster Ian Fox was the star of the show when the club staged their annual finals night. Fox collected two trophies, beating Simon McCaskie in the junior open final before beating Peter Reynolds in the Read McLaren Handicap final.
MARTIAL ARTS: With only four weeks of judo experience behind her, Debbie Boyle of Castor Judo Club lifted the silver medal at the Peterborough Area’s annual Kyu Junior Championships.
WATERSPORTS: Local water skiing ace Guy Gooding started his British Championship campaign with a time of just over an hour for the 50-mile course to place third in the first round at Weymouth.
FOOTBALL: A hat-trick from Doug Morrison, plus goals for Shaun Harris and Mark Dwyer, secured the Peterborough Youth League KO Cup for Blackstones after a 5-4 win against Focus who scored through Gary Garner (2) and Gordon Higham (2).
ANGLING: Local rod Bryan Lakey from Leverington became the new Embassy champion with a 77lb catch of bream in a thrilling match on the river Guden in Denmank.
ATHLETICS: Sharon Dale won the junior girls high jump at the Eastern Young Athletes meeting at the Embankment Track while sprinter Paul Meadows and jumper Robbie D’Allara both gained a double apiece.
40 YEARS AGO
GOLF: Max Faulkner and partner Brian Barnes won the Peterborough Milton charity match with a 3 and 1 victory against John Garner and George Will.
POSH: Long-serving player Ron Cooper and former captain Ian Crawford were given free transfers by the club. Also on their way were Richie Norman, Peter Smith, Peter Thompson, Roger Wosahlo, Mike Hellawell and John Flannagan.
GOLF: City housewife and mum Susan Stephenson completed a hat-trick of Northants women’s championships.
FOOTBALL: A Drovers team of Willie Ford, Geoff Steels, Jack Wilson, Malc Grummitt, George Humphrey, Barry White, Fred Warnes, Dougie Foard, Ivan King, Bernard Lant, Alan O’Donnell and John Jenkins beat Newark 3-1 to retain the PFA Cup.
MOTORSPORT: Local star Dickie Greer was the star of the show at the fourth round of the British Grasstrack Championship in Whittlesey. Greer took maximum points in the 350cc class and was runner-up in the 500cc class.
ROWING: A city team of Colin Burgess, Andy Williams, Mick Bates, Kerry Stapleton and cox Andy Northfield came out on top in the senior fours at the York Spring Regatta.
FOOTBALL: Goals from Geoff Matthews, Charlie Guest and John Anderson scored the goals as Eye secured a 3-1 result against Whittlesey to win the Intermediate Cup Final replay.
