An Andy Clarke opener and an Andy Edwards equaliser earned Posh a point in front of 5,083 fans.ICE HOCKEY: Phantoms reclaimed a share of top spot in the British National League by blowing away Milton Keynes Kings during a season's best 11-1 win. Player-coach Randy Smith led the way with five of the best while Doug McEwen (2), Andrew Milne, Daniel Granqvist, Claude Dumas and Matt Brush also found the net.
LADIES FOOTBALL: Pearl Ladies smashed Posh Reserves 12-6 in the Peterborough Seven-a-side League thanks to goals from Lynn Tancred (4), Kelly Pickstone (4), Lisa Shevlane (3) and Lucy Hargrave.
RUGBY: Borough fell into the Midlands East Division One relegation zone after a tame 22-0 defeat at Corby side Stewart & Lloyds.
FOOTBALL: Substitutes Jon Harrison and Liam Harrold came off the bench to score the goals as Blackstones won 2-1 at Bugbrooke in the United Counties League Premier Division.
HOCKEY: A player named Bond was licensed to thrill on his Peterborough Athletic debut. That's Tony Bond who hit a hat-trick as the city side recovered to draw 3-3 at Royston in the East League.
WINDSURFING: City talent Nick Dempsey could only finish a disappointing 24th place finish at the Wotrld Championships held in Australia.

POSH: The city side extended their unbeaten run to 13 matches in all competitions but allowed two points to slip from their grasp as Torquay hit a late equaliser in a 1-1 at London Road. Carl Richards had earlier fired Posh ahead.
ATHLETICS: Giovanni Rizzo climbed off his sickbed following a bout of flu to lead from start to finish in the Icknield League Cross-Country meeting at Thetford.
CRICKET: Peterborough ICS bowled well but batted poorly as they went down to a 21-run defeat at Manchester in the National League Premier Division. The city lads skittled the hosts for 46 but were dismissed themselves for 27. Peterborough ICS batting partnerships: Chris Malton/John McDougall 9, Steve Miller/Duncan Craig 8, Ged McDougall/Richard O'Leary 1, Billy Young/Eric Tydeman 8.
FOOTBALL: Nigel Carter and Dave Scotney struck the goals that secured Bourne a shock 2-1 derby success over United Counties League leaders Holbeach in the second round of the FA Vase.
ICE HOCKEY: Rock-bottom Pirates were dealt a major blow when star man Todd Bidner suffered an ankle injury during a 12-8 defeat against Fife Flyers in Scotland.
POSH: Boss Mark Lawrenson ordered the London Road boo boys to lay off 40,000 striker Paul Culpin who had managed only one goal in 12 appearances for the club.
DARTS: Local throwers Nadine Bentley and Les Hodkinson finished runners-up to Maureen Flowers and her partner Phil Taylor in a mixed pairs tournament in Coventry.

POSH: Boss Peter Morris was facing up to the biggest test of his managerial reign after seeing his side bow out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle following a 2-1 home defeat against Bournemouth. Billy Kellock scored their goal. Posh: Waugh, Carmichael, Collins, Sharkey, Smith, Foster, Chard, Kellock, Cliss, Parkinson, Syrett. Sub: Robson.
RUGBY: John Ford and Andy Croson scored the tries, Mick Daykin successfully converted them and Tim Magill dropped a goal as Borough breezed to a 15-0 success at South Leicester.
FOOTBALL: Phorpres' ended the 11-game unbeaten run of Peterborough League Premier Division table-toppers Eye United with a 2-0 win. Steve Bussey and Andy Hales scored the goals in the first half.
TABLE TENNIS: Jean Allison enjoyed an honours double at Hunts & Peterborough Closed Championships. She won the ladies singles crown and then teamed up with mother Evelyn to land the doubles honours.
FOOTBALL: Robin Sainty was the star turn with two goals as Wisbech smashed Yamouth 4-0 in the Town & Country League. Trevor Cousins and Andy Blundell also found the net.
BASKETBALL: Joanne Pike produced a 30-point haul and Gillian Harding added another 20 as Peterborough Ladies walloped Kettering 2nds 80-20 in the Northants League.
BOXING: Hard-punching jockey Brian Drabner (25) won the National Stablelads' Championship lightweight title. He beat Epsom's Grant Christie on points.
40 YEARS AGO
POSH: The city side could not cope with the absence of player-boss Jim Iley due to ankle damage as they went down to a 2-1 home defeat against Chesterfield, Bobby Moss scoring the goal. Posh without Iley was like a car minus headlights according to this newspaper.
RUGBY: Perkins crashed 29-9 against Huntingdon 2nds despite tries from big number eight Jim Zimmerman and Alan Bacon.
FOOTBALL: Jimmy Hook hit an extra-time equaliser to earn Peterborough Rovers a 4-4 draw against Pinchbeck in a PFA Senior Cup replay. An own goal, Malcolm Parmenter and Graham Bussey completed the city side's haul.
HOCKEY: Elks charged into the final of the Iuvenix Cup with a 5-0 win over St Johns. Malc Unwin (2), Tony Hansen (2) and Rod Vernum hit the goals.
FOOTBALL: Spalding lost 6-0 to Cambridge City in the Southern League despite what was dubbed 'a great display' from their goalkeeper Peter Coupland.
RUGBY: Stan Williams scored two tries in the final two minutes but Peterborough Town still went down 24-16 in their contest against South Leicester.
FOOTBALL: Peter Hircock hit a hat-trick as March overpowered Histon 5-1 at the GER ground. George Sharman also struck twice in the Eastern Counties League win.
