Peterborough Town came up against stiff opposition at the national club championship finals and did well to attain a sixth-place finish.

The finals featured loads of players in the top 150 in the world and one team included three players in the top 60 in the world.

Town were given a tough first round draw. They came up against last year’s champions Colets from Surrey, who possessed the Portugal number one and two players ranked in the world’s top 100.

Town lost 4-0 but bounced back to beat Kingsland 3-1 in their next game and that meant a play-off against Wigan to determine fifth and sixth place.

Although Jon Hand was beaten, superb wins by Dan Soar and Chris Reeve put Town in with a shout of victory.

Unfortunately for Town, Dan McGinn’s opponent was current European Under 19 champion Patrick Rooney. McGinn produced some of his best squash but Rooney was too strong and ran out an 11/4 11/8 11/8 winner.

That meant a 2-2 scoreline but it was Wigan who took fifth place 9-7 on coutnback.
