Eye gymnast Louis Smith has helped the Great Britain men’ team qualify for the Rio Olympics next year.

Smith was in the team that secured Olympic qualification after confirming their place in the World Gymnastics Championships team final in Glasgow yesterday (October 26).

The top eight nations guaranteed their places in Rio and Britain’s score of 354.417 on Sunday proved enough, with those competing on Monday falling short.

The achievements of the men’s team comes on the back of the women’s team securing their Rio spot with a third-place finish in Glasgow - Britain’s best-ever result in qualifying for an Olympics.

The Great Britain men’s team consists of Max Whitlock, Dan Purvis, Louis Smith, Nile Wilson, Kristian Thomas and Brinn Bevan and they will now focus on individual events in Glasgow after savouring team glory.

Smith produced a 15.533 performance on the pommel horse at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow which will earn him a place in the apparatus final on Saturday.
