Eye gymnast Louis Smith has been included in the Great Britain squad for the World Championships in Scotland later this month.

The three-times Olympic medallist is part of a six-strong men’s team selected for the competition in Glasgow starting on October 23.

He will be joined in the squad by Max Whitlock, Dan Purvis, Kristian Thomas, Nile Wilson and Brinn Bevan as they look to book a place for GB in the team event for next year’s Rio Olympics by reaching the team final.

There is no place for Smith’s Huntingdon clubmate Daniel Keatings, who won gold on pommel horse and silver in all-around at last year’s Commonwealth Games.

GB men’s head coach Eddie Van Hoof said: “The team reflects the great strides made by the Great Britain’s men’s gymnastics programme with a real blend of experience and youth in our team.

“The primary aim for Glasgow is Rio qualification, but a home world championships with the fantastic home crowd also gives extra motivation for individuals to really make their mark.”

Smith will be focusing on pommel horse after winning the European title in April. But he will initially be in action in qualification for the team final on October 25.
