Lions roar into county cup final
BOROUGH 2NDS 7 LIONS 23
BOROUGH 2NDS 7 LIONS 23THE Lions emerged deserved winners of this Hunts and Peterborough county cup semi-final at Fengate.
James Hannam and Pete Brudnell threatened to wreak havoc for the hosts in the early stages, but the Lions - and in particular man-of-the-match Damien Moore - put in some crunching tackles to repel their forceful thrusts.
And once that back row pair were stopped, Borough ran out of ideas.
The Lions patiently bided their time and in the end produced the best of what quality rugby there was on show.
Manny van Niererk and Jan Ferrara crossed for the two Lions tries with Jaco Steynberg kicking two conversions, two penalties and a drop-goal.
For Borough it was Hannam who scored under the posts for Will Mardling to convert.
The Lions, winners for the last three seasons, now meet Huntingdon firsts in the final at Huntingdon next Saturday.
