Lewis on the bench as England beaten in U21s final
Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson reported that Joe Lewis was 'disappointed' not to make the starting line-up for England's European Championship Under 21 Final against Germany in Malmo, Sweden on Monday night.
Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson reported that Joe Lewis was 'disappointed' not to make the starting line-up for England's European Championship Under 21 Final against Germany in Malmo, Sweden on Monday night.England manager Stuart Pearce preferred to select Watford's Scott Loach in place of suspended number one Joe Hart. The decision wasn't a success with Loach responsible for Germany's crucial second goal in a 4-0 win.
Pearce signed a new two-year contract after the game, but Lewis is unlikely to continue an under 21 career that yielded five caps. Pearce announced before last night's final that he selected Loach partly on his age – he is eight months younger than Lewis.
Lewis played half a game against Germany during the Championships and kept a clean sheet in a 1-1 draw.
