Lewis display shows why Posh paid £400,000 for him

JOE Lewis delivered further proof that he is well worth the tag of Posh's most expensive purchase.

JOE Lewis delivered further proof that he is well worth the tag of Posh's most expensive purchase. The 400,000 goalkeeper made three crucial saves during the second-half as Posh came under pressure from a Hereford side seeking the third promotion slot.

The most notable was a brilliant tip over the bar from a ferocious 30-yard free-kick from Trent McClenahan 10 minutes from the end.

Lewis said: "Apart from the Bury game at home, that was the busiest I've been since I came here, but days like this are why I moved to London Road.

"It would have been a disaster if we hadn't gone up with the quality of players we have in our dressing room.

"We remained confident even after last weekend's defeat by a very good Stockport side and I feel that showed in the way we played.

"Hereford are a good side as well and they were always likely to create chances so a couple of the saves were very pleasing.

"He struck the free-kick very hard and I wasn't sure whether or not it was going to hit the bar, but I was pleased to get a finger-tip on it.

"The lads defended superbly in front of me though and we were well worth the win."

Hereford took defeat in good spirit with highly-rated centre-back Dean Beckwith admitting: "Peterborough are strong at the back and they have some excellent forwards.

"That's why they are second in the league and that's why they've been promoted."
