Lambert: We'll rain on Posh's parade

Colchester are determined to rain on Posh's parade on Saturday.

Colchester are determined to rain on Posh's parade on Saturday.Posh could be promoted to the Championship with victory at the Weston Homes Community Stadium (3pm)(team news and live updates), but Colchester boss Paul Lambert is adamant he won't allow that to happen.

The U's manager is a big fan of his Posh counterpart Darren Ferguson, but he wants a frown rather than a smile on his opposite number's face at 5pm tomorrow.

Lambert said: "Darren Ferguson has done a great job and not just this season.

"It hasn't been a case of him falling on his feet either as he has assembled a very good side and they deserve to be where they are in the league.

"But we will be going all out to win this game. We haven't had the best record at home this season and it is important to go out on a high into the summer.

"I thought we were probably a bit unlucky to lose 2-1 up at London Road earlier in the season, and I'm sure it will be a close game again.

"Peterborough know what they have to do, but we are keen to go out there and win this weekend for our own fans."

A Posh win coupled with defeat for MK Dons at home to Walsall is the only way Ferguson's side can clinch a second successive promotion tomorrow.

But Ferguson remains convinced that nothing will be settled until the final day of the season on May 2 when Posh host Swindon, a match which is already a virtual sell-out in the home sections of London Road.

Ferguson said: "I've had a feeling for a while that it will go right down to the wire and I haven't changed my mind. We are fully focused on our own game tomorrow.

"We know we need to win and we know that it won't be easy as Colchester are a very good side with a very good manager.

"But the lads have been sharp in training and they look in the mood to give a good performance and get another three points. We will have to be at our best to win though."

Central defender Gaby Zakuani remains a doubt tomorrow because of a groin strain, but Chris Whelpdale is expected to return at the expense of Dominic Green.

Ferguson is also considering a starting place for fit-again midfielder Lee Frecklington, a player the manager rates very highly.

Ferguson added: "Frecklington gives us something a little bit different and he's a player that I like a lot.

"Zakuani is still a doubt, but Chris Westwood and Craig Morgan were exceptional together last Saturday so I would have no qualms about keeping them in the side.

"We are in a great position to go up and it should be a great atmosphere tomorrow.

"Our fans won't let us down and I am sure we can deliver a performance that sends them home happy."

Posh are currently in the second automatic promotion spot. They are four points ahead of third-placed MK Dons, who are the only team who can realistically catch them, but Dons have a game in hand at Northampton next Tuesday.

Dons finish the season at home to League One's bottom club Hereford.
