Kingsland Reservoir and Bluebell Lakes at Tansor well worth a visit
We seem to be blessed with a whole host of stillwaters in the area, with a really good variety to choose from and all within half-an-hour of the city centre.
We seem to be blessed with a whole host of stillwaters in the area, with a really good variety to choose from and all within half-an-hour of the city centre. One of my favourites has to be Kingsland Reservoir. There are two carp lakes on the fishery and a Silver Fish Pool which has become very popular throughout the year.
It is full of crucians, orffe, skimmers, tench and chub which have already seen nets to 50lb-plus.
Onto the carp lakes and Kingsland is one of the few fisheries that allow you to fish a Method feeder, a real winner in early spring.
Nets are provided on site, but for the bigger fish it is always best to take a quick photo and pop them back in. That goes for all our local waters really.
With better fish being taken quite regularly now an unhooking mat would not go amiss either.
Pole and pellet work well and those that fish paste on the hook often take three-figure weights.
The fishery is easy to find. Head out of Peterborough on the A605, through Whittlesey, Eastrea and Coates. After Coates look for the right-hand turn to Turves, turn right and the fishery is half a mile on the left-hand side.
Day tickets are 6 a day with concessions for OAPs, juniors and disabled anglers. The contact number for all enquiries and bookings is 01733 840312.
There can be few carp anglers that have not heard, or indeed have not fished, the magnificent Bluebell Lakes at Tansor.
This is a fishery like no other in the area, one of the few genuine specimen waters that you can fish on a day ticket and be in with a chance of capturing a record-breaking fish. The fishery is stocked with monster carp, pike and reportedly some huge catfish.
Be warned though this fishery is not for the inexperienced angler. I would suggest you learn the ropes at waters such as Railway Lakes or Kingsland before attempting a few days here.
Day ticket prices vary for fishing Bluebell so call owner Tony Bridgefoot. You can contact him on 01832 226042 or you can visit the fisheries website www.fisheries.co.uk/bluebell.
There is ample car parking and many pegs are suitable for disabled anglers.
The on-site caf is equipped with toilets and sells a range of tackle and accessories.
You can find Bluebell Lakes from the main A605, turning right at the Warmington junction towards Fotheringhay. At the next T-junction turn right to Tansor and look out for the big sign on the right-hand side down to the lakes.
