Mark Plummer looks back at successful Peterborough Panther reserve riders over the years:CLAUS VISSING (2008)
Anti-depressants were the order of the day at Alwalton last year, but Vissing's form was one welcome bright spot.
He shared the club's rider-of-the-year accolade after a stunning late run at reserve which featured several double-figures scores and a paid 15-point maximum in the second leg of the club's relegation battle against Wolverhampton.
Reserve partner Karol Zabik also slammed in a paid full house that night.
RICHARD HALL (2006)
The 'Hallmighty' was not the biggest success during his near two seasons in Panthers colours, but he has to be included for one simple reason – the 2006 Grand Final.
The Yorkshireman will always be afforded cult status in these parts for his wonderful contribution on the greatest night in Peterborough Speedway history.
The chance to lift the Elite League title was slipping away rapidly until Hall became a hero with great rides in two crucial late heats as Panthers pulled off one of the greatest sporting comebacks of all-time.
KENNETH BJERRE (2003)
The pint-sized Dane is the main man at Alwalton these days.
Bjerre wears the club's number one race jacket, but six years ago he was shining at the other end of the order.
Bjerre dropped a huge hint of his future prowess with a scorching run of five double-figures scores in the space of a few weeks with 15 and 19-point offerings away at his next club, Belle Vue, the best of the bunch.
DAVID HOWE (1998)
Howe was the headline act among Panthers' bunch of bright young British talents at this time.
He had only just turned 16 when playing a starring role during the city club's Premier League honours crusade.
Howe knocked in big scores home and away (he was only denied a stunning 21-point paid maximum by an early fall in a Showground success over Reading) and finished the season with a 7.79 average.
JASON CRUMP (1992)
Not surprisingly, the Australian ace didn't stick around the reserve ranks for long.
He banged in points for fun in the early weeks of his debut British season and fittingly Crump completed a paid maximum in his final meeting as a reserve.
Needless to say he has gone on to much bigger and much better things since.
MICK POOLE (1985)
Poole was another awesome Aussie, another prolific Panthers reserve and another man who went on to greatness.
Regarded by many as the club's greatest-ever rider, Poole wasted no time in showing the Showground faithful what he could do.
Poole spent his first few meetings after arriving on loan from King's Lynn at reserve, but was soon climbing the speedway ladder after half-a-dozen double-figures returns.
ANDY HINES (1977)
Good reserves never stick around the bottom of the team for long. Andy Hines was very, very good and his spell was very, very short.
He spent only three weeks operating as a reserve in 1977 and promptly slammed in one full 15-point maximum and two paid 14-point offerings.
He finished the season at the top of the club's averages.
JOHN DAVIS (1971)
It was not easy being a reserve back in the early days. Generally they only used to have three rides in a meeting and Panthers fans were left begging for more from Davis.
The 16 year-old didn't disappoint either as a 10-point score at Rochdale confirmed – and that really was an achievement in those days..
