Junior Football: Hill leaves Orton after 22 years at the helm

Under 16

Under 16LEGENDARY boss Keith Hill had no idea when he joined Bushfield Football Club back in 1989 that he would be the last man standing more than 20 years later.

Over the past two decades the football fanatic has become a real institution down Orton way but next season Hill and the club he helped to build will be no more.

Having created two separate teams and taken them all the way through from nursery football to the Under 18's, Hill has decided to call it a day and take a well-earned rest from the game.

And that spells the end for Bushfield FC as Hill's current Under 16 Division One team are the only ones left still flying the flag for the city side.

He said: "I have built two different teams over the years and have had many of the current crop with me since they were five years old so it is going to be a real wrench for me.

"But after all this time I felt I had done my bit and have earned a rest from football. Sadly that means the end of Bushfield as we are the only team standing but I have some fantastic memories that will live with me forever.

"I have been lucky enough to have only ever managed teams in the top flight and during that time we have won the treble, doubles and other trophies which was a real privilege.

"We also had the trips to places like Blackpool with the boys which were a lot of fun and I still chat to the first team I managed even though they are all now in their mid-twenties and up to other things.

"For me it has always been about playing the game the right way, with a smile on our faces and with the right attitude to fair play.

"If the boys I coached take those principles with them in life then I will have done my job."

And just to make sure their boss went out on a winning note, goals from Ryan Hill, Luke Turner and Joe Hodge wrapped up a 3-1 win against Powerleague in their last ever game.
