It's bedlam for Phil!

IT seems there's been more fun and games down at London Road with Phil Adlam again the unfortunate victim.

Press officer Adlam, or 'Bedlam' as he's more affectionately known in media circles, has his own facebook on the web and his status now reads: "Phil Adlam is not going to allow anybody by the name of Chris Whelpdale, George Boyd, Jamie Day or Danny Crow near his computer ever again."

Before that, I understand it said: "Phil is excited with the text his boyfriend sent him."

Seems those cheeky scamps had been changing his profile while he was away from his desk.

Age can be a barrier...

TWO sprightly lasses from the Esporta Running Club recently took part in the Bedford Half-Marathon and were pleased with their efforts.

And Morag O'Brien was absolutely thrilled to bits when she received a phone call telling her she'd been awarded the prize for finishing first in the lady veterans Over 55 age group in 2.05.51.

But while she was thrilled, running partner Cathy Hill was hopping mad.

She ran side by side with Morag all the way round and they crossed the line together and were both given exactly the same time. So why weren't they both given a prize?

It seems she had every reason to be incensed.

In fact she was so angry she thought about ringing up to complain . . . that was until she remembered that when she entered the race she had lied about her age!

A knockout appearance

JUSTIN Beaumont is as thorough as thorough can be when it comes to compiling reports on Peterborough Rugby Club matches for the benefit of the selection committee - just as you'd expect from a former top cop.

The second team manager gives a detailed analysis every week on the performance of every player. It doesn't matter who they are or how good they are, they get a mention - even if he doesn't know the player's name.

After this week's big win over Dunstablians he concluded his report with: "The fifth replacement was some chap from the vets XV who wished he had not bothered as he came on in the second half, played for two minutes, got knocked out cold and was carried off never to be seen again!"

Ray having bad cup run

BIG Posh fan Ray Dowland hasn't had much luck lately - especially where the FA Cup is concerned.

He was at the FA Cup match at Staines when Posh won 5-0 but remarkably missed all five goals because he was queueing for a burger.

Last Saturday he was queueing again - this time at London Road for tickets for Posh's third round clash at Colchester - when the mobile rang.

It was 'she who must be obeyed'.

Ray had forgotten he was supposed to be picking her up and shot off sharpish - minus his cup tickets. It's worth repeating

"Playing Joe Perry is about as easy as getting Marmite off the bedsheet when you've had it on toast the night before" - Steve Davis at Snooker's UK Championship.

"It's not often you see a referee with two red balls in his hand, Willie" - Dennis Taylor to Willie Thorne commentating on the UK Snooker Championships.

"I'm not saying we shouldn't have a foreign manager, but I think he should definitely be English" - more words of wisdom from Paul Merson.
