Ipswich match will dictate if Panthers make changes

PANTHERS bosses will decide whether to make team changes in the wake of tonight's home clash against Ipswich.

PANTHERS bosses will decide whether to make team changes in the wake of tonight's home clash against Ipswich. The city side return to the Showground to complete a run of four meetings in the space of five days (7.30pm start).

A Saturday night success at Eastbourne – following hot on the heels of a Thursday home win against the same opponents – has lifted Panthers into third place in the Elite League standings, but owner Rick Frost is still not satisfied.

Frost did not reveal which riders may be under threat, but said: "A lack of consistency and commitment from certain riders is not acceptable.

"Decisions will be made after tonight's meeting whether immediate changes will be made to the team.

"In short, I am not happy at the moment and that usually spells trouble."

Panthers are back to full strength with Ales Dryml and Kenneth Bjerre returning after World Championship commitments ruled them out of the last three and two meetings respectively.

Ipswich hand debuts to new recruits Scott Nicholls (who scored paid 16 against the city side in his final meeting for Coventry on Friday) and Troy Batchelor. They replace Jarek Hampel, who has quit British speedway, and Piotr Swiderski – a Panthers asset unable to reproduce his fine form of 2008.

Former Panthers man Danny King is now skipper of the Witches following the recent departure of former captain Leigh Lanham into the Premier League.

King will be back at Alwalton next Monday when part of the Great Britain side competing in Event Two of the Speedway World Cup against Australia, Poland and Slovenia.
