Sculler Ed Rippon leads the way with a hat-trick of wins as Peterborough City Rowing Club dominated at their two-day spring regatta at Thorpe Meadows. Two days of brisk competition at the Thorpe Meadows rowing lake produced a total of 15 wins for city crews and with it the Victor Ludorum prize for the most successful team.

After taking the honours in five races on Saturday, Peterborough City produced their very own version of super Sunday with 10 more successes on Sunday (7 June).

Once again it was the younger element who led the way with Ed Rippon, James Fox and the girls coxed quad four all among the winners but there was plenty to cheer about for the home fans elsewhere too.

The men's veteran coxed fours and eights also came out on top with the senior women's coxed eight tasting success in the city club's most successful regatta for many years.

But the star of the show had to be 16-year-old Rippon, who powered his way to victory in the junior 16 and novice sculls over the 1000 metre course before winning the junior sculls over half that distance on Sunday.

Not bad for someone who doesn't even like the event.

Rippon said: "I felt good out there and won both my races pretty comfortably which I was pleased about especially as I don't really like the singles.

"Hopefully I will be going to Henley in a few weeks time so this is good preparation for me and it is always nice to win in front of a home crowd."

Unfortunately for James Fox, who won the junior 18 sculls, his preparations for one of the world's most famous regattas has not gone so smoothly.

"I won my event which was good but it is in the quad that I hope to win at Henley and that will be tough now as our crew has been put in the men's event instead of the juniors," he said

"It seems a bit unfair as we are all still eligible for the juniors but because we won at the Metropolitan Regatta we have to compete against the men which will be tough.

"But it is all part of what goes with the sport I suppose and hopefully I will be in good shape for the World Junior Championships come August."

There was also a win for Fox's younger brother Adam in the junior 15 double sculls along with Jake Lunn while Ed Rippon's older brother Elliot took the honours in the men's novice singles yesterday.

And with Sam Tuck winning the men's intermediate double sculls with Harry Neale the day before dad Steve triumphed as part of the veterans coxed eight and fours, proceedings had a real family feel.

Club press officer Anita Carter said: "It was a fantastic two days for rowing and for Peterborough City Rowing Club.

"Fifteen wins is the best I can remember and winning the Victor Ludorum was just the icing on the cake. It certainly helped that we have a few families with some talented rowers all representing the club.

"But winning races is only a part of an event like this and I would like to thank everyone from the 80 different clubs who took part and also the small army of volunteers who worked so hard.

"It was a record regatta with over 300 races taking place so eveyone did a fantastic job to ensure it all ran smoothly."
