Swindon 7, Phantoms 3 - Wildcats in seventh heaven after hammering Phantoms
English Premier League report: PHANTOMS were savaged in Swindon on Saturday night as their miserable run of form extended to seven games without a win.
The Wildcats are far from being the best team in the English Premier League but by the end of a shocking first period Phantoms had made them look like world beaters.
With the visitors looking like they wished they hadn’t bothered getting off the coach, the Wildcats jumped into a 5-0 lead inside the first 20 minutes.
And while his team did get better as the game progressed, that opening spell was about as bad as it gets according to player/coach Chris Allen.
He said: “I don’t know what happened out there in the first period. We had too many players who just looked like they didn’t want to be there and it was just embarrassing to be honest.
“At the moment I just don’t know what the problem is but if we cannot put it right soon it will be too late for all of us.
“We improved as the game went on and we beat them 3-2 over the last two period but stats like that are totally irrelevant when you go out and play like we did in the first period.”
Aaron Nell opened the scoring for the home side after just a few minutes and from then on in the Wildcats seemed to score at will.
Nick Watt deflected a Paul Swindlehurst shot past Damien King to make it 2-0 before Jonas Hoog, Michal Pinc and Jaroslav Cesky all piled in to leave the score at 5-0 at the buzzer.
Phantoms skipper Jeff Glowa cut the arrears early in the second period but Nell quickly bagged his second of the night to quash any thoughts of a comeback.
James Ferrara made it 6-2 but an early marker from Hoog in the final act underlined the Wildcats’ supremacy before Greg Randall struck with a late powerplay consolation.
