English Premier League: Phantoms occupy their highest league position of the season after completing a four-point weekend in Sheffield on Sunday night (17 January).Needing to beat the Scimitars to leapfrog them in the EPL standings, two goals from James Morgan and one each for Brent Gough and James Spurr ensured Phantoms got the job done.

Now with his side up to the dizzy heights of sixth, coach Doug Irwin is confident his side can continue to climb clear of the doldrums.

He said: "It was a tough game but we battled hard and made sure we picked up what is another vital road victory.

"Getting results away from home is what held us back earlier in the season but we have started to get the results now and confidence is growing every week.

"We had to work hard for it in Sheffield and we needed some good netminding from Stephen Wall. Despite the injuries we have, I think we are now beginning to hit top form at just the right time."

Despite outshooting their hosts in the first period it was Scimitars who led going into the middle frame after a Tom Squires goal a minute before time.

Morgan's first of the night got Phantoms back on terms early in the second period before Lewis Bell restored the home side's slender lead.

Five minutes before the end of the second however Morgan's tied the game back up before Brent Gough skated the length of the ice to nip the puck past Ben Bowns in the Scims' goal.

The home side then replaced Bowns with Pasi Raitanen but even the flying Finn was powerless to prevent James Spurr adding Phantoms' fourth to wrap up a vital result.
