Peterborough Phantoms Under 14s are on cloud nine after blowing away title rivals Invicta Dynamo 6-0.

The city youngsters went into Saturday’s table-topping clash at the Peterborough Arena knowing a win would see them installed as firm favourites for the English Ice Hockey Association South Two title.

And thanks to two goals apiece from Owen Davis and Samuel Dean and single strikes for Morgan Pizzo and Kieran Raynor, Phantoms got the result they needed to extend their perfect record to nine wins from nine games so far this term.

Team manager Louise Davis said: “I was absolutely ecstatic with the team on Saturday, they were all absolutely fantastic. We knew it was a big game for us as Invicta arrived as the league leaders and our biggest rivals for the South Two League title.

“But we just had far too much for them on the day and although we are still only third, having won all our games we are in a very good position. Of course we have to win our games in hand but if we keep playing like we are then we have a great chance of promotion.”

Owen Davis ensured the home side got off to the perfect start when he converted Jasmine Moore’s pass to send his team into the second period with a 1-0 lead.

Davis then doubled his tally early in the middle period after good work from Ryan Fraley before Samuel Dean and Morgan Pizzo both lit the lamp to fire Phantoms into an unassailable 4-0 lead going into the final period.

And there was more to come with Dean grabbing his second of the game before Kieran Raynor wrapped up the scoring five minutes from time with a smart finish from Pizzo’s pass.

Davis added: “No one is getting too carried away at the moment as we all know there is still a lot of work to do. We still have nine games left but, crucially our last few games are all at home, finishing at the end of March with our derby game against Milton Keynes.

“And I think they can do it. With the help of our terrific coaches, Tim Peacock and Carl Stripling, we have everything in place to finish the job.”

Phantoms are next in action on Saturday when they take on Isle of Wight in Ryde (face-off 4.25pm).
