The Great Britain Under 20 international, who spent two years with the city club, has earned a move into the Elite League with Dundee Stars.

McGiffin (19) told the Scottish club’s Stars TV service: “Any sportsman wants to push himself and I’m no different.

“I’ve always aspired to step up, I’ve got the right opportunity now and I’m determined to prove myself.

“I know a lot of people who have come into the Elite League and basically found themselves sitting on a bench all season and wasting their time.

“It’s important for me that I have a role and provide for the team, and I think I will do that in Dundee.”

McGiffin contributed 25 points in 103 appearances for Phantoms and was part of the team that lifted the English Premier League play-offs in the 2014/15 campaign.

His new club, Dundee, finished seventh in the 10-team Elite League last season.

McGiffin has followed leading scorer Craig Scott out of Planet Ice. Scott has moved to fierce rivals Milton Keynes who will themselves enter the Elite League in 2017/18.
