Graham out to keep the deadly duo quiet

JOE Graham hopes his inside knowledge can help Phantoms triumph in their crunch match with Bracknell Bees tomorrow.

Phantoms go into the game at the Peterborough Arena (face-off 5.30pm) knowing a win could see them move above the Bees and into the last English Premier League Play-Off spot.

It will be no easy task against the Berkshire side who boast two of the EPL’s most fearsome forwards in Czech duo Martin Masa and Lukas Smital.

But having played with Smital and Masa when they were at Guildford Flames last season, Graham believes he can help keep the deadly duo quiet at Bretton HQ.

He said: “I know quite a few players in the Bracknell team but obviously if you were picking out their star men you would have to pick Lukas and Martin. They are really good players and they just have so many tricks up their sleeves.

“But having played and trained with them for a season I think I know how to reduce their threat. If you let them make the first move you are in trouble so the key is to hit them early and hard.

“You can never completely quieten players of that quality though and we will have to deliver another solid team defensive display tomorrow. Of course we face a tough trip to Slough tonight too so we cannot just focus on tomorrow.

“If we can get something from that game and a win against the Bees, we can make an even bigger move.”

Since arriving from Guildford Flames in the summer Graham has grown in stature to become a key player in Phantoms’ plans this season.

And as well as his defensive abilities the 21 year-old has been showing he can also be a threat at the other end as well.

“I enjoyed scoring against Telford last weekend and I think if I get the chances I can get a few more but I know my main job is stopping goals, not scoring them,” he added.

“As the season has gone on I think I have grown as a player. I am still young but I am aware that there is more expected of me here, and if that means going out and hitting the body or whatever to get everyone going then I will do it.

“But I don’t think anyone needs motivating for these games and confidence is high. Our forwards like Luke Ferrara, Maris Ziedins and Ondrej Lauko are all scoring goals and we are looking much harder to beat. All we need to do it keep it up.”
