Ferrara ends up in hospital as Phantoms get bitten by the Dogs

English Premier League

PHANTOMS slumped to their sixth away defeat on the bounce after a miserable Saturday night in Sheffield.

Despite the backing of a decent travelling support who braved wintry conditions on the A1 to make the trip, the city side were unable to deliver the much hoped for result on the road.

Phantoms were without skipper Jeff Glowa who missed the game due to an ongoing knee problem while the Steeldogs player-coach Andre Payette didn’t feature as he was serving a three-match ban.

Payette’s absence meant Phantoms were not given the rough reception they had been expecting after the 5-2 win at the Peterborough Arena last month and they ended the first period very much in the game at 0-0.

Both sides continued to draw a stalemate in a tight middle act but the Steeldogs got their noses in front early in the third when top scorer Janis Ozolins beat Damien King to make it 1-0.

And from there it went downhill fast for Phantoms with Ashley Calvert and Raivis Kurnigins firing the home side into what proved to be a winning 3-0 lead.

Phantoms tried to come back but there was no way past netminder Ben Bowns who held on for his shut-out. And to make matters worse top scorer Luke Ferrara ended the night in hospital after damaging his knee in the closing stages of the game.
