Ice Hockey: Injury-ravaged Phantoms are dealt another bad blow

INJURY-ravaged Phantoms have been hit by another blow after being told loan forward Ross Dalgleish cannot play against Swindon Wildcats on Sunday. With a long list of players out of action, it had been hoped Dalgleish would be available to ice against the Wildcats at the Peterborough Arena on Sunday (face-off 5.30pm).
But with Dalgleish's club Nottingham Panthers facing an away double header against Belfast Giants this weekend, the 22-year-old forward has been recalled by the Elite League leaders.
The decision to shorten the loan stay makes it even tougher for Phantoms who are already without Julian Smith, James Ferrara, Tom Carlon and Callum Fowler for the clash.
Coach Doug Irwin said: "We had really hoped to keep Ross this weekend as he is a hard working player who fitted in well with our dressing room.
"At the moment we really need every healthy body at our disposal but Panthers have their own injury problems and Ross is their player.
"We will miss him for sure but I can only work with what I have and I will be calling for maximum effort from the players to get the win against Swindon."
While Phantoms will be without Dalgleish tomorrow, Irwin has not given up hope that the player could be back to help out in the coming weeks.
He said: "At the end of the day we will take him whenever he is available and I think there is a good chance that Ross will be back with us.
"Our injuries are not going to have disappeared by next weekend and if he is made available to us again then we would welcome him back with open arms."
