Home sweet home for Panthers' pair
RESERVE racers Claus Vissing and Kenneth Hansen have gone from being housemates to Panthers pals.
RESERVE racers Claus Vissing and Kenneth Hansen have gone from being housemates to Panthers pals. The club's newly-formed reserve combination will have no excuses for not hitting it off - after all they used to live in the same property in Wolverhampton.
Fit-again Vissing and recent recruit Hansen (who is hoping to extend his short-term switch until the end of the season) are preparing to ride as a partnership for the first time when the city side travel to Coventry for an Elite League A fixture tomorrow night.
Vissing said: "Both myself and Kenneth lived in the same accommodation in Wolverhampton for a while and he is another good, young Danish rider.
"We have known each other a long time going back to when we were riding in the same events as juniors.
"We haven't ever ridden together before, but I don't think we should have a problem clicking as a pair."
Vissing makes his return to Panthers action at Coventry tomorrow and will be a rider fuelled by the frustration of almost a month on the sidelines with a broken collarbone.
The 22 year-old is anxious to make up for lost time after an opening to the season disrupted by poor form, mechanical troubles and injury.
And he is licking his lips at the prospect of settling back into a Panthers outfit in considerably better form than the one he left behind in early April.
Panthers oozed class when demolishing the Bees 59-35 at the Showground on Monday and they travel to Brandon with high hopes of registering a first away success of the season.
Vissing added: "It was really tough for me at the start of the season when I was in the main body of the team because I had a few problems and wasn't really scoring points.
"No speedway rider likes being out injured and I couldn't wait to get the OK from the doctors to start riding again. I'm really excited to be back in the team and can't wait to see the supporters again.
"I've been doing plenty of running and cycling to keep fit and have also been keeping track of all the Panthers meetings on the internet, but watching them like that is no fun at all.
"Things are looking really good after the win against Coventry and hopefully I can make the team even stronger. Away wins are always important and that is what we will be trying to do at Coventry."
Vissing was the club's joint rider-of-the-year in 2008 with current number one Kenneth Bjerre.
