A 6-2 win against Canwick Park gave Spencer his eighth win on the bounce in the senior inter club league.

n THERE was plenty of work to do for Greetham Valley’s handicap secretary after last week’s July Medal. Tony Smith was reduced from 20 to 16.8, Simon Mason from 18 to 15.4 and young star Nick Cunnington had two shots shaved off his mark and will now play off seven.

n HANNAH Vaughan is the new ladies club champion at Burghley Park. Vaughan shot two rounds of 82 to take the title from Michelle Ady in second and Helen Robinson in third.

n MILTON will certainly be well represented in Northants Under 18s’ first Anglian League match. City stars Ryan Rowe and Josh Scimica will definitely compete against Cambridgeshire at Collingtree Park on July 28 with clubmate James Walters named as reserve.

n SUPERSTAR Lee Westwood paid a visit to Elton Furze this week when the local course hosted a three-day golf academy endorsed by the Nottinghamshire Ryder Cup ace.

Among the eager youngsters who got the chance to meet the man who so nearly won last weekend’s Open at Turnberry was Evening Telegraph competition winner Harry Dowling.

He said: “It was an amazing experience to meet Lee, especially after watching him on TV at the Open.

“He gave us all plenty of advice on how to improve our game and I found that really useful.”
