Hockey: Winfield-Chislett hits a treble as Deeping are promoted
CITY of Peterborough thirds and Market Deeping seconds celebrated East League title wins at the weekend.
CITY of Peterborough thirds and Market Deeping seconds celebrated East League title wins at the weekend.City claimed the Division Two North crown after beating Ipswich & East Suffolk 3-2 at Bretton Gate, while Deeping took the honours in Division Four North West after thumping Cambs Nomads thirds 9-0.
Experienced players Mike Yeoman, Aggi Milner and Simon Miles were the City scorers, while Henry Winfield-Chislett (3), Neil Burford (2), Phil Arnold (2), Chris Mann and Simon Burnell were the men on target for Deeping.
That win stretched Deeping's unbeaten run to 20 matches, but they failed to make it 21 when losing 3-0 to second-placed City of Peterborough fifths 3-0 24 hours later.
Tom Wadsworth, Tom Handley and Chris Green hit the target for City who will also be promoted if Deeping avoid defeat against third-placed St Ives 2nds in the final fixture of the season tomorrow night.
Spalding finished their campaign with a bang, cracking 10 goals past March in Division Three North West. Captain Michael Morris led the way with four goals.
