WISBECH picked up a rare point as they ended a seven-match losing run to hold Sevenoaks to a 2-2 draw in the East Women’s League Premier Division.
It’s been a tough season for the basement club, who had lost 13 of their 15 matches prior to Saturday’s draw - in stark contrast to last season when they ran away with the Division One North title.
Claire Apted and Nat Ward scored as Wisbech picked up their first points since mid-November. They were the first goals the club had scored since beating Colchester 3-1 eight games earlier.
In Division One North, City of Peterborough suffered their fourth successive defeat as struggling Norwich Dragons completed the double over them.
Norwich have won just four times this season, two of them against City, and Claire Steels’ double was all in vain as the Dragons won 3-2.
City of Peterborough seconds moved up to second in the East Men’s League Premier B thanks to second-half goals from Brendan Sullivan and Chris Porter.
The latter superbly converted James Sharpe’s cross eight minutes from time to make it 2-0 against basement side Harpenden but the visitors pulled one back late on to set up a tense finish.
With Blueharts and Ramgarhia drawing 5-5 in the top-of-the-table clash, City moved a point above the former.
City thirds, who lead Division One, were held to a 2-2 by struggling Upminster despite goals from Rob Harrison and Shayne Andrews.
City were at one stage down to eight players following yellow cards for Adam Wilson, Jon Sortwell and Jordan Heald, the latter later receiving a second yellow as they finished with nine players.
