Outgoing Stamford High School headteacher Dyl Powell was treated to a suprise send-off by some of her current and former students on Saturday (June 20).
Ms Powell leaves her current post after 12 years at the end of the academic year to take up a headteacher post at Harington School, a new sixth-form college in Oakham.
This prompted Fiona Hartley, a former pupil at King’s School, Peterborough where Ms Powell was deputy head until moving to Stamford, to organise a secret hockey match in her honour.
Stamford High School’s first XI took on a King’s School XI at City of Peterborough Hockey Club’s Bretton Gate base, after forming a guard of honour for their surprised guest.
Ms Powell was a first-team player at City of Peterborough for many years before becoming an international hockey umpire.
