PREVIEW: Frustrated City of Peterborough are in the mood for goals

City haven’t played an East Premier A Division fixture since December 3. Last Saturday’s (January 21) scheduled home match with Harleston was a victim of the weather.

City remain second in the table, three points behind Old Loughtonians with two games in hand, and they are desperate to get back to winning ways.

City skipper Ross Booth said: “We’ve been working hard to maintain our fitness and sharpness, but everyone is desperate to start playing league matches again.

“Chelmsford are bottom of the table, but they will be fighting hard to get out of trouble. They will get players behind the ball and they have plenty of experience so it’s not a match to take lightly.

“On the other hand they have conceded a lot of goals and as we won our last home match 8-0 we will be seeking to deliver another dominant, attacking display.”

Teenager Nicky Reddy will return to the squad tomorrow after taking part in the National Under 18 Indoor Championships in Telford last weekend.

City represented the East and lost three of their four group matches to Canterbury (2-1), Beeston (6-2) and Doncaster (3-2). They beat Taunton Vale 5-2 with goals from Brendan Andrews (2), Arthur Franklin (2) and captain Reddy.

City of Peterborough Ladies have completed back-to-back wins in East Division One North in 2017.

Goals from Robyn Gribble and Anna Faux secured a 2-0 win at Lincoln for second-placed City. They have a tough trip to fourth-placed Harleston seconds this Saturday.

Bourne Deeping men shot to the top of East Division One with a hard-fought 3-2 success at Norwich City seconds.

Two James Sharpe goals gave the local team a 2-0 lead, but they needed a second-half strike from Stuart Biggs to claim victory after a Norwich fightback.

Bourne Deeping host Upminster tomorrow.

Bottom club City of Peterborough thirds helped Bourne Deeping’s promotion push by holding third-placed Shefford & Sandy to a 2-2 draw.

City were 2-0 down but rescued just a third point of the season thanks to goals from Dan Wadsworth and Milo Fitzpatrick.
