THOMAS Deacon Academy’s successful Under 18 team bid for national glory this weekend.
They travel to Croydon for the National Indoor Schools Finals with six of the team who reached the Under 16 finals last year in the squad again.
The school’s director of hockey, Mike Yeoman - the reigning Evening Telegraph Coach of the Year - is delighted to have again reached the finals and is hoping they can again put up a good performance against some of the best school sides in the country.
He said: “To have reached the final once was a great effort so to have now done it twice is an amazing achievement.
“This achievement has come off the back of three years of planning which has this season culminated in a 25-match unbeaten run against the best schools in the region, three of which competed at last years national finals.

“Six of the boys will be returning to the finals, having played in last year’s Under 16 team, and that experience will help them this weekend.”
Eastern champions TDA begin with a match against Southern runners-up Cranleigh tomorrow and then take on Western runners-up Dean Close. Their final group matches are on Sunday when they come up against Midland champions Bromsgrove and Northern champions Wakefield.
If they finish in the top two in their group they will progress to the semi-finals, where they would come up against one of Southern champions and hosts Whitgift, Eastern runners-up Watford, Western champions Taunton, Midlands runners-up Trent or Northern runners-up Rossall.
TDA, skippered by Jordan Heald, have been boosted by kit sponsorship from Metcalfe, Copeman and Pettefar (MC&P) Solicitors.
