City of Peterborough Ladies maintained their push for honours in Division Two North West of the East League by smashing their seond team for six on Saturday (November 29).

They won 6-0 to remain two points behind league leaders Spalding.

The game started with the first team going straight onto the attack and the pressure led to skipper Lauren Finding slotting a lovely ball through the D to Lyn Tancred who expertly finished under the keeper.

Soon the lead was doubled as Katy Lee also combined with Tancred before the latter slotted her second goal of the game.

As the first half continued the firsts struggled to break down their compatriots as the seconds defended very well by packing the D.

The second half saw a much improved performance form the firsts as their movement and creativity together with crisp passing began to cause problems for the seconds.

Tierney Augustine turned on a sixpence before hitting a great low shot to the goalkeeper’s right to make it 3-0. Within minutes Augustine combined again with Tancred for the latter to complete her hat-trick.

With the game seemingly won, the firsts took their foot off the pedal and gave the seconds some opportunities at the back which they were not able to convert.

With 10 minutes to go the firsts made it 5-0 with a cracking direct shot from a short corner from skipper Finding.

And then Just before the end Jen Duffy made it six after recovering from her sick bed to have a small run-out at the end of the game, poaching at the back post to slot past the seconds goalkeeper Jenny Cade.

City of Peterborough Ladies thirds missed the influence of coach, manager and player Andrea Howard and lost 1-0 to Huntingdon while the fourths drew 3-3 with Huntingdon seconds. Youngsters Ellie Holmes, Emma Vergette and Georgie Richardson scored for City.
