City of Peterborough hope their dozen-goal demolition of local rivals Bourne Deeping in the English Hockey Cup last weekend (September 27) wil kick start their East Premier A Division campaign.

City hammered Bourne Deeping 12-1 at Bretton Gate, just 24 hours after conceding a last-minute goal in a 3-3 draw against Dereham in the league.

But City have just one point from their first two league matches ahead of a home game against Chelmsford tomorrow (October 3, 1pm)

The visitors have an identical record, but are expected to provide stiff opposition.

City manager Graham Finding said: “It’s a tough game as both sides will want to kick-start their season.

“It’s always a hard game against Chelmsford and this will be no different.

“We edged them out 4-3 at home last season, but lost comfortably at their place. They went on to finish a couple of places and seven points ahead of us.

“Like us they have lost 1-0 to title favourites Old Loughtonians this season so there shouldn’t be a lot between the sides. They also drew at last year’s runners-up Wapping so I wouldn’t read too much into their current league position.

“But in the cup match we were able to concentrate on a number of areas identified as needing work following the disappointing draw with Dereham, not least the benefits of Australian Robbie Muir getting to know his new team-mates.

“As a result we will be as well prepared for Chelmsford as we can be.”

Muir opened his account for City with four goals against Bourne Deeping. Tom Hagues (2), Shane Vincent (2), Ben Read, Ross Booth, Paul Hillsdon and Ross Ambler also netted.

City of Peterborough Ladies also have a tough game at home to Wisbech in East Division One North tomorrow (11.30am).

Wisbech walloped Spalding 5-0 last weekend with Charlie Paine grabbing a hat-trick.
