HOCKEY: City of Peterborough Ladies' title charge gathers pace

City of Peterborough ladies maintained their title charge in East Division One North with a 4-1 thumping of one of their main rivals at Bretton Gate yesterday (February 27).

Saffron Walden started the day in third place, but that position, just two points behind leaders Wisbech, now belongs to City after a dominant second-half display. Walden travelled with sickness in their camp which might explain why they collapsed late on.

The visiors opened the scoring against the run of play in in the early stages, but Tierney Augustine equalised before the break after a fine run and pass from player-of-the-match Anna Faux.

City made positional changes for the second half and they soon took control of the game. Mel Ludlam shot City in front before Augustine and Katy Lee added further goals.

Wisbech moved to the top after their 6-2 win over Royston and a draw for previous leaders Cambridge City seconds,

City travel to struggling Spalding next Saturday (March 5). Spalding lost 3-1 at Norwich City yesterday.
