There is a chance that City of Peterborough Ldies will enter the mid-season break on top of the East Division One North table.

City made it six wins and two draws from their last eight league matches with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Bedford seconds to move level on points at the top with Norwich City. Their final game before the Christmas break is at mid-table Norwich Dragons next Saturday (December 5).

Top scorer Tierney Augustine shot City ahead at Bedford after fine approach play from Anna Faux and Robyn Gribble and that was the only goal of the first half.

City quickly earned a penalty flick at the start of the second half which was converted by skipper Lauren Finding.

That was the signal for heavy pressure from the home side who pulled a goal back 20 minutes from time, but excellent goalkeeping from Bekki Warr and strong defending from Kate Dixon and Emma Faux enabled City to hang on to victory.

Warr, a student at Stamford College, has won selection to the National Colleges squad.

Spalding Ladies remain rooted in the relegation zone after losing 3-1 at Norwich Dragons.
