Hockey preview: City of Peterborough aim to complete a hat-trick of wins over local rivals Wisbech on Saturday (10 January) as they chase their 2015 aim of a top four finish in the East Premier A Division.

City have already won at Wisbech in the league and in the EH Cup. They should make it three out of three against a team who have lost all 11 of their East League matches this season.

City are currently eighth after winning just four of their 12 matches.

City manager Graham Finding said: “Despite a disappointing league position we have been pleased with much of the hockey we played in the first half of the season, and the way we have competed against teams whatever their league position.

“We have beaten Wisbech twice so far this season, but we are very conscious that they have been understrength due to injuries, and are likely to have returning players who will make sure that we need to play to our best if we are to secure all three points.”

Wisbech did win a game for the first time this season when beating Norwich Dragons 5-0 in an East indoor tournament last weekend. Sam Blunt and Will Denny shared the goals.

Wisbech won one and drew one of their six matches.

Spalding Ladies closed the gap on City of Peterborough at the top of East Division Two North West last weekend with a 5-2 win over Alford, the only team to have beaten them this season.

The Division’s top scorer Kelly Tuplin grabbed a hat-trick as Spalding moved to with a point of City, and they have a game in hand. Katie Gray and Kelly Slator also scored.

Spalding will go top if they collect at least a point from their game at rock-bottom Ely on Saturday. City are without a fixture this weekend.

The East League programme resumes in full for men and women on January 17, but there are numerous re-arranged games taking place this weekend.
