City of Peterborough Ladies are back on top of East Division Two North West following a 5-1 win over Wisbech seconds last weekend (December 6).
The final scoreline flattered City who laboured throughout the first-half, reaching the interval just 1-0 in front through Lyn Tancred following a one-two with outstanding teenager Tierney Augustine.
The local ladies received a stiff talking to at the break and responded well as Claire Steels immediately set up Katy Lee for a second goal.
The majority of the jockey was now being played in the Wisbech half and Tancred’s pass enabled Nicole Duffin to slide the ball past the visiting goalkeeper and into the corner of the net.
On a bitterly cold day the City defence and goalkeeper had little to do as the home side kept moving forward and soon they were rewarded again when Tancred passed to her left and Steels cracked in a superb shot from the dge of the ‘D’.
City’s fifth goal was a mirror image of the first goal as Tancred and Augustine again exchanged paases before the latter coolly slotted home.
With time running out Wisbech enjoyed a rare foray forward and pulled a goal back through Megan Fey.
City moved back to the top as previous leaders Spalding were without a game. City travel to face local rivals Bourne Deeping at Arthur Mellows Village College, Glinton this Saturday (December 13) for the final league game before the Christmas break.
City of Peterborough seconds lost their Division Two North West match 6-3 to Pelicans of King’s Lynn despite a fine hat-trick from Anna Faux.
