Hockey: City put up a brave fight but still go down

CITY OF PETERBORO 3 FIREBRANDS 4

CITY OF PETERBORO 3 FIREBRANDS 4CITY of Peterborough were relegated back to East League hockey after losing a seven-goal thriller in their National League relegation play-off at Bretton Gate.

City actually led 2-0 and 3-2 before Firebrands from Bristol fought back to keep their own hopes of survival alive.

Simon Shorter struck twice from short corners in the early stages to give City a great start and Joe Finding's smart volley put them ahead again after a Firebrands fight back.

But the visitors struck twice in a minute late in the game to steal the win. Firebrands will survive if City avoid defeat by more than one goal in Formby on Saturday.
