Hockey: Beavers seeking to reach their ninth Brummitt final

JURASSIC Beavers are protecting one of local sport's most impressive records this weekend.The local mixed hockey team have reached the last eight Roger Brummitt Mixed Hockey Tournament finals. Their 2-0 win over surprise finalists GPO last year was their fourth success.

Jurassic, a team of veteran players who have represented the famous Bretton Beavers club in the past, must overcome Long Sutton, Hull Exiles and Ely in their group before tackling the knockout stages.

Ragamuffins, a team who often call on some of the best players in the East, and Bourne are expected to challenge the perennial favourites for their crown.

Sixteen teams are taking part in the two-day event at Bretton Gate which starts at 10am tomorrow and Sunday. The final is scheduled for 5.45pm on Sunday.

Draw:

Group 1 - Beavers, Blue Green Zeds, Dereham, Bourne.

Group 2 - Ragamuffins, No Comment, Anderson's Army, Almighty Ones.

Group 3 - Jurassic Beavers, Long Sutton, Hull Exiles, Ely.

Group 4 - GPO, Lincoln, Classic Tornadoes, No Defence.

FIREBRANDS from Bristol take on Formby from Lancashire in a National League relegation play-off match tomorrow which will have consequences for City of Peterborough's future.

City are involved in a round robin survival battle with the two teams. Only one will secure a National League place for next season.

City host Firebrands on April 25 and travel to Formby on May 2.

SIX City of Peterborough players are part of the Cambs squad contesting the National County Under 15 Championships in Manchester this weekend.

Joe Houghton, Nathan Foad, Marcus Howard, Alessandro Vardaro, Jordan Heald and Adam Wilson are the City players who will be tackling the cream of Yorkshire, Somerset, Bucks and the Midlands.

Next weekend City's Under 15 side compete in the National club finals.
