Henley treble for City stars

PETERBOROUGH City rowers enjoyed more Henley success with three victories in the annual Veterans Regatta.Graham Barks and Pete Essex finally secured their first Henley Veterans medals when they won the Men's Veteran D double sculls convincingly, beating the Ardingly and Thames Tradesmen composite in the final by four lengths, improving on their silver at the National Veterans Championships a month ago.
The first City winner was Women's Veteran F single sculler Joan Heath who beat Stainforth from Durham by three lengths over the 1000m upstream Thames course.
Jo Canton and Hayley Marsters had their first Henley Veterans win in a pair when they beat Reading Boat Club by 1 lengths in the Women's Veteran C coxless pairs.
Tim Ellis and Jo Canton lost in the final of the Mixed Veteran C double sculls, against National Veteran Champions Wycliffe College Boat Club in the final, but comfortably held off the Canterbury Pilgrims/Henley composite crew in the semi.
The previous weekend City juniors James Fox and Adam Neill had become the first from the club to win an event at the main Henley Regatta.
Jack Hunt School pupil Fox and Neill, who attends King's School, were part of a composite crew with rowers from Nottingham and Leicester who won the Fawley Challenge Cup, an under 19 quad event.
Fox is among those in action in the National Junior Championships in Nottingham this weekend.
He will be competing in the Under 16 single sculls as well as in the Under 16 quad event alongside clubmates Sam Tuck, Ollie Salonna and Ed Rippon.
Tom Chung of City is taking part in the Under 15 single sculls.
THERE was also success for the club in Wales at the Llandaff Regatta.
The Men's Novice coxed four of David Todd, Peter Todd, Darren Rowe, James Bizley and cox Tom Elston beat Ironbridge Rowing Club at the second time of asking in the final.
Initially they dead-heated and so were sent back to re-row the final on the 650m river course.
Their fitness paid off and they beat Ironbridge by a length.
