Golf: Society get new 'bacher'

THE Park Farm Golf Society have attracted a major sponsor for their annual Captain's Day competition this year.

THE Park Farm Golf Society have attracted a major sponsor for their annual Captain's Day competition this year.Leading German brewers Krombacher are supporting the event at Thorpe Wood on June 27 thanks to one of the Society's founder members Julian Penny.

Park Farm resident Penny, who helped set up the Society with Roger Hughes nine years ago, was made redundant in April and is currently unemployed.

But on July 1 he starts work as UK sales and marketing agent for Krombacher, whose Krombacher Pils is one of the best selling lagers in Europe.

And he's wasted no time in putting the Krombacher name about on his home patch.

"It's a good opportunity for Krombacher and at the same time it gives the Society a boost. It's my job to promote the beer all over the UK and what better place to start than the golf course on your doorstep," said Penny.

On the day Krombacher will providing free drinks and other goodies for the competitors.

"We're thrilled to welcome Krombacher on board," said Hughes, the Society president, "and it's really given the competition a lift.

"Last year we had 60 people take part and we're hoping to better that this time round.

"We've got 600 worth of prizes and the competition is open to non-members."
